Conversion is when we choose to love God and intend to fulfill the first Great Commandment.
It is the internal process of turning our disposition towards what is truly good with the intention of changing and avoiding what is harmful. A life-long process, a continuous rebirth that can be refined as we advance throughout our lives, and which starts at the moment that we freely turn our will in the direction of Divine Will. When we convert, we give God permission to show us our faults, to perfect us, and to restore us to be the best versions of ourselves, which are our true selves.
Yes, the best versions of ourselves are our true selves because we have all been created by God, who is pure love, true perfection, undefiled goodness, and infinite wisdom. The moment God created us, our true essence was a beautiful reflection of God’s own qualities, as we were made in His image. We slowly disfigure our souls and come to believe many lies about ourselves, and when we believe these lies, then we also believe the lies about God.
We start believing that we aren’t good at our essence, and then we project this towards God and believe the same about Him. We tell ourselves that we don’t want to change who we “truly” are because we believe this disfigured version of ourselves is the real one, and that to attempt to be different from who we believe we are today, is violence against ourselves. But the true act of violence against ourselves is to remain disfigured, to reject conversion, and to reject a God who loves us beyond the greatest love we can imagine.
Conversion is the act of granting access to God to our souls and hearts, which are in need of repair. Do you want to grant access to your precious soul to society’s changing ideals? To people who at best might be lost in their own journey or at worst want to deceive you out of jealousy or insecurity? To spirits that wander away from God? To your own misconceptions? Or do you want to grant access to your soul and heart to your Creator, who loves you beyond measure, and who knows exactly what is best for you and wants to bless you with it?
